SANKOFA SAND – footprints on the motherland [PRODUCTS]

Cape Coast Castle - Ghana - West Africa

PICTURE of Castle

Sankofa is an Ashanti word that means, “Do not forget your past” or “Go back and learn from your past.”  The symbol for Sankofa is an African geese with the neck turned backwards.  Sankofa Sand is a unique gift from Africa to you. It is a glass crystal with different etchings on the glass and with a hole containing sand. The sand in the crystal is genuine sand from the beach outside the Cape Coast Castle, Ghana, West Africa.  The beach on the back of this and many similar castles and forts on the West Coast of Africa was the place where our ancestors set foot on the African continent for the last time. The men, women and children who had been enslaved, shackled and kept in the dungeons of the castle went through “ the door of no return” and walked on these beaches to ships that will bring them to the Americas. Over 10 million people were taken from their homeland to the Americas.

Sankofa Sand is a fitting gift to give for a birthday, a wedding, graduation, retirement, bon voyage party, promotions, achievement awards, appreciation gifts to inspire a loved one, and of course at Kwanzaa. We believe every descendant of Africa in the Diaspora should have a religious book (e.g., bible, Koran, etc.) and a piece of Africa [Sankofa Sand] in their home.
